Bioinformatics department structures

On Bio-ITWorld.com last week was an excellent article by BIoTeam's Aaron Kitzmiller on the different approaches to structuring an internal bioinformatics department, and the pros and cons of each method. I'd be interested to hear our readers' opinions on their experiences with their own in-house bioinformatics departments and how the structure of those departments affects their ability to meet the needs of the customer (aka. the scientist). Comments below please!
